Q: Awesome gift shop sells calendars for $20, with a member discount, the calendars cost $17. What is the discount percent?

A:
Verbal Model – Discount = p percent * Regular price
Labels – Disount = Regular price – sale price = 20 – 17 =3 (dollars)
Percent = p % = P/100 (no units) Regular price = 20 (dollars)
Algebraic Model – 3 = p/100 * (20) 0.15 = p/100
ANSWER - The discount Percent is 15%
